Night Veterinary Surgeon | Wirral | £60,000 to £85,000 Pro Rata Plus Bonus
My independent client on the Wirral is seeking a confident Night Veterinary Surgeon to join its dedicated out of hours team within an RCVS accredited multidisciplinary referral hospital.
The clinic provides emergency care alongside the ongoing treatment of hospitalised first opinion and referral patients. You will work with an experienced RVN and have referral clinician support, as well as access to advanced diagnostics throughout your shift.
The role
• Permanent position at 0.75 FTE
• Seven nights on followed by 14 nights off
• Shifts from 7:30pm until 8:30am
• Average of approximately 31 to 33 hours per week when annualised
• Salary of £60,000 to £85,000 pro rata, based on a 40 hour week, plus a bonus scheme
• Approximately five to 15 inpatients per night
• Emergency consultations and ongoing inpatient care
• Admission and triage of emergency referrals under clinician direction, following training
• Experienced RVN working alongside you
• Referral clinician support available
The caseload can include complex emergencies such as GDV, haemoperitoneum, pleural effusion and diabetic ketoacidosis. The ideal candidate will be comfortable making clinical decisions overnight, providing clear handovers and working closely with the hospital’s daytime and referral teams.
Facilities
You will have access to CT, endoscopy, ultrasound, an extensive laboratory suite, drip pumps, syringe drivers and blood transfusion products held on site. The hospital also participates in the Blood Sharing Scheme.
Equipment is available to the out of hours team, and calls are handled directly rather than by an external call centre. An on site daytime administration team supports the clinic.
About you
You will be an RCVS registered Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in emergency and critical care. You should be confident managing a varied out of hours caseload, maintain excellent clinical records and communicate compassionately with clients during stressful situations.
